Energy Conversation

Did you know that saving energy in your home can go a long way in curbing the real and present threat of climate change? That’s right! Everything that goes on in and around your home will have some effect on the planet, directly or indirectly, and the outcome will be either negative or positive.

Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates, in accordance with NASA. But simply put our weather is getting violent and uncertain; and because of these reasons, our planet and all of us are in constant danger.

That’s why Hopper Squirrel wants to help our planet by showing us the many ways we are being wasteful in our homes today, in the attempts to get you and your family thinking of how you and to start doing things correctly in hopes that, together, we can help solve these dangers.

Below you will find a drawing of the Doodum family Home. The Doodum’s are of modest means, meaning they make enough money to “get by”. Dad is an Engineer at the local plant and his wife stays at home to take care of their school aged son and daughter. She is over-whelmed by the amount of work she has to do daily, even though its not considered a “job” and she can use some help as well.

Observe the picture below and go room by room to identify the many different abuses and misuses of energy in their home. Make a list and then come up with a solution for each that you find.

Go over the picture again, but this time with a parent. See if they located the same problems as you have and ask if they see any others, you might have missed. Afterwards you can explain to them the things that you have learned and the different ways you’ve learned to save energy in your home, which saves money and the changes you have made will also help to save the planet!
